Burger Bus

My burger van blog

And on the 8th day, he rested

27 July 2026

No, not the 7th day… because during summer, Sundays are often some of the busiest days of the year for Burger Bus.

If you’ve ever hired a burger van, visited a food truck festival or booked street food catering in Bristol, you probably see the queues, smell the burgers and think, “That looks like a great job.”

And to be fair, it is.

But what you see is only a tiny part of the story.

By the time the first burger lands on the grill, there’s already been hours of work behind the scenes. During the height of summer, a typical day starts long before most people are awake. Fresh produce needs collecting, burgers need preparing, sauces checked, stock counted, drinks loaded, generators tested, gas bottles secured and the bus cleaned from the previous event.

By the time we’re rolling out of Bristol towards a wedding, festival or corporate event, we’ve often already worked half a day’s shift.

Summer is organised chaos!

From May through September, Burger Bus can be catering at weddings one day, festivals the next, brewery events after that and private parties at the weekend.

Every booking is different.

A wedding might need a relaxed evening service with beautifully presented burgers and loaded fries.

A corporate event might require serving over 300 people quickly during a lunch break.

A music festival means preparing for thousands of hungry visitors while dealing with unpredictable weather, changing schedules and queues that seem to appear out of nowhere.

That’s what makes mobile catering exciting.

No two days are ever the same.

The work doesn’t stop when the shutters close

This is probably the biggest surprise for people.

Once everyone has gone home and the final burger has been served, we’re only halfway through the day.

Everything has to be packed down safely.

Cooking equipment needs cleaning.

Oil has to be dealt with correctly.

Stock has to be counted.

The bus needs washing.

Equipment has to be checked ready for the next booking.

Then we head back to Bristol, often arriving home late at night before doing it all again the following morning.

It’s hard work.

But it’s work we genuinely enjoy.

Why we love festival season

Festival season has a unique atmosphere that you simply can’t recreate anywhere else.

Watching thousands of people enjoying live music while grabbing one of our signature burgers is something we’ll never get bored of.

We’ve been lucky enough to cater at festivals, large public events, brewery taprooms, sporting occasions and community celebrations across the South West.

Every event has its own personality.

Some customers find us every single year.

Others discover Burger Bus for the very first time while wandering around looking for something to eat.

Seeing people come back for a second burger later in the day is probably one of the biggest compliments we can receive.

Weddings remain one of our favourites

Although festivals often steal the spotlight during summer, weddings are always special.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about providing evening food after months, or even years of planning by the bride and groom.

We regularly hear guests say,

“That was the best wedding food we’ve had.”

Those comments make every early morning worthwhile.

If you’re searching for wedding catering in Bristol, Somerset or the wider South West, our aim is simple.

Serve exceptional burgers.

Keep queues moving.

Leave guests talking about the food long after the evening has finished.

Corporate catering is growing fast

One area we’ve seen grow significantly is corporate catering.

Businesses are increasingly looking for something more memorable than standard buffet food.

Whether it’s staff appreciation days, office launches, product events or company celebrations, a fully converted American Burger Bus creates an experience that people remember.

Good food brings people together.

Great food gets people talking.

That’s exactly what we aim to deliver.

Sundays aren’t always restful…

People often joke that Sunday is a day of rest.

For us?

Not always.

Some Sundays involve serving hundreds of burgers before packing everything away and getting ready to do it all again on Monday.

Others are spent maintaining the bus, fixing equipment, ordering stock, replying to enquiries and planning the coming week’s events.

Running a successful food truck business isn’t just about cooking.

It’s logistics.

Planning.

Maintenance.

Marketing.

Administration.

Cleaning.

Customer service.

And occasionally wondering where the weekend actually went.

Then comes autumn…

As summer gradually winds down, the pace begins to change.

Festival fields become quieter.

The evenings become cooler.

But Burger Bus certainly doesn’t disappear.

In fact, our focus simply shifts.

Autumn and winter bring some of our favourite types of bookings.

Corporate catering becomes busier as companies organise Christmas parties and staff events.

Private celebrations continue throughout the year.

Pub residencies return, allowing customers to find us regularly for freshly cooked gourmet burgers.

Community events, sporting fixtures and brewery nights become a bigger part of our calendar once festival season finishes.

It’s a different rhythm—but one we enjoy just as much.

Thank you

Whether you’ve booked us for your wedding, visited us at a festival, hired us for a corporate event or simply stopped by one evening because the smell of burgers on the griddle was too tempting to ignore…

Thank you.

Every burger we serve helps support a small independent Bristol business that’s passionate about quality food and genuine customer service.

We know there are plenty of catering companies to choose from, which is why we never take your support for granted.

So if you spot the big American Burger Bus somewhere across Bristol, Somerset or the South West this summer, come over and say hello.

We’d love to cook for you.

And if you don’t catch us during festival season?

Don’t worry.

Once the fields empty and the music fades, you’ll find us back doing what we love—serving incredible burgers at weddings, corporate catering events, brewery taprooms, private parties and public locations across the South West.

Because while the festivals eventually end…

Burger Bus never really stops.
